Jaipur Rugs Founder Honoured with Leaders50 Award

The founder of Jaipur Living, NK Chaudhary, has been named one of 2024’s Top 50 Leaders in the World by Thinkers50. The honour puts NK, sometimes called the Ghandi of the carpet industry, among such leaders as Leena Nair of Chanel, Mary Barra of General Motors and Axel Dumas of Hermes.

It is a prestigious list of global visionaries selected for their worldwide contributions, their character as individuals and leaders, and their dedication to sustainable legacy. This is entirely in keeping with the Jaipur Living story.

“What makes this recognition so special is how beautifully it aligns with the very principles and vision my father used to start Jaipur Living in 1978,” NK’s daughter, Asha, told us.

Jaipur Living started with NK’s focus on supporting the dying art of rug making in India while transforming lives. He provided livelihoods to the most vulnerable—the poor, those known as “untouchables,” and women—and at the same time fostered a renewal of the age-old craft of artisan-made rugs.

Jaipur Living now employs over 40,000 artisans in communities across India, bringing their creations to market with an ongoing commitment to sustainability, quality and artistry.

“My mission is to connect our artisans to themselves by nurturing their creative capacity. They are empowered to fulfill their aspirations and live a dignified life.” —N.K. Chaudhary
